Maca Gold
"Maca" a dehydrated cruciferous root vegetable grown at 12,500-14,000 feet above sea level in the Andean Plateaux of Peru and has been used as a medicinal food for at least 8,000 years. Maca Gold is 100% pure maca root powder and is available in capsules and in powder form which is sold as an aseptic powder (no mould, bacteria, weeds).
Lepidium Meyenii, is the overall botanical name of the Maca group. However there is a variance between this and the Maca Gold product, which is Lepidium peruvianum Chacon. This refers to the name given to the plant of the maca group that Dr Gloria Chacon found, which was the only one to contain 4 essential alkaloids of the traditional medicinal plant, missing in the common Meyenii plant of lower altitudes. Lepidium peruvianum Chacon is listed in herbariums (after Dr Chacon) in the USA, UK and Europe as the botanical name of this plant found to grow only above 12,000 feet where the traditional medicinal plant has always been grown. The maca plant does grow below this altitude but it then lacks many of the medicinal benefits and becomes very similar in its uses to any root (food) crop, and is known as Lepidium Meyenii.
At present there is a huge surplus of inferior Maca on the market in Peru, as large areas were planted at lower altitudes by investors seeking to ride on the maca wave of expansion in the USA. There are many companies from Peru wishing to sell maca in Australia at very low prices however Maca Gold continues to buy direct from the traditional farmers of maca through their traditional buyers to maintain the medicinal qualities, potency and purity of the product.
Due to the laws in Australia for natural vegetable products that are not on the ARTG (Australian Register of Therapeutic Goods), the therapeutic benefits of the vegetable called maca cannot be listed, however you may wish to do your own research.
